EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) hosts this webinar series to share various EPA tools and resources that can be used by representatives of state environment and health agencies, tribes, local governments, communities, and other decision-makers who may benefit from the use of these tools.

NEHA Preparedness Committee

Mission

To serve as a resource for NEHA and all environmental health professionals in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters, in order to minimize death, illness, and injury and create more resilient communities

Description 

NEHA’s Preparedness Committee is comprised of public and private sector environmental health and emergency management experts working in partnership to provide outcomes in the following priority areas:

  • Development of position papers and policy statements.
  • Guidance and input on NEHA’s preparedness programs and projects.   
  • Promotion and dissemination of NEHA preparedness related, and the committee developed materials and resources.
  • Identification and recommendations related to training gaps, needs of the profession, horizon challenges, and emerging disaster issues that can affect environmental health.
  • Identification of scientific-based practices, successes, and challenges for environmental health professionals in environmental health preparedness.
  • Identify funding opportunities for Environmental Health Preparedness.
  • Help to clearly define the role of Environmental Health in emergency response.

Membership

NEHA's Preparedness Committee is comprised of local, state, federal, and industry professionals with environmental health and preparedness backgrounds.

EHTER Operations Course

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) will be holding an Environmental Health Training in Emergency Response (EHTER) Operations course on January 26 – 31, 2020 at its training facilities in Anniston, AL.

Extreme Storms, Flooding, and Health Impacts Webinar

This webinar for environmental health professionals and the communities they serve will give an overview of the health impacts of extreme storms and flooding, including lung health impacts, and practical tips from local environmental health professionals. Speakers will share their personal experiences and lessons learned while serving communities that have experienced extreme storms and flooding.

Health Impact Assessment

In this session, the Planning Healthy Communities Initiative (PHCI) will lead an introductory training on health impact assessment as a tool to promote community health and equity in planning processes and decision-making. Participants will engage in group exercises related to HIA steps, discuss opportunities and challenges to integrating health into planning and policy processes, and learn about new statewide collaborative initiatives and emerging tools to build capacity for health advancement in planning, and to support health in all policies.

16th Annual U.S. EPA Drinking Water Workshop

This free annual workshop, held in partnership with the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA), provides in-depth information and training on various solutions and strategies for handling small drinking water system challenges. The workshop is primarily designed for state personnel responsible for drinking water regulations compliance and treatment technologies permitting; however, others may also benefit, including system owners and operators, local and tribal governments, academics, design engineers, technical assistance providers, and consultants.
